Meet Angela
Angela Veneziano-Shaba, LPC is a licensed professional counselor and the owner of Elite Psychology and Wellness. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany and received a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University in New York City. Angela is currently a doctoral student working on her PhD in Performance Psychology at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. Her research interests and doctoral dissertation is focused on emotion regulation with concussed athletes and athlete related injury.
Angela has experience working in a variety of clinical settings that include university counseling centers, hospitals, public education and mental health agencies that developed her unique therapeutic approach, assessment and counseling skills.
She completed her graduate internship at Iona College Counseling Center in New York, where she provided mental health counseling and outreach services to both the general student population and student athletes and consulted regularly with coaches and athletic departments. Angela has worked as a senior staff clinician at Arizona State University, where she counseled Division 1 athletes, supported coaches and worked collaboratively with sports medicine physicians, as well as providing therapy services to the general student population regarding career and academic transitions, mood-related issues, relationship concerns, and identity development. She also worked as a mental health clinician and supervisor at the City University of New York, Staten Island where she developed the first group counseling program at the counseling center to better support the needs of the student population. She worked with a variety of trauma and familial related dynamics. She has also worked as a school counselor and district supervisor supporting a variety of student and family needs in various public school settings in New York, New Jersey and Arizona.
During Angela's career experience, she has developed collaborative partnerships with Rutgers University Medical Center, Dignity Health, St. Joseph's Hospital, and community mental health agencies in Arizona to implement and support behavioral and medical health needs of our youth population with regard to overall mental health needs and sport injury prevention. Angela is also an active committee member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, working with other providers to help develop policies for our youth to stay safe while playing sports.
Angela works to help individuals learn healthy coping skills to handle life stressors and adjustments that have an impact on daily life. She can help you gain motivation, realize your potential and achieve your goals. She creates a therapeutic setting that is empathic and that cultivates positivity and growth to best fit the individual needs of each person. Angela works from an integrative model, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal and mindfulness counseling modalities.
Angela has presented at numerous workshops and conferences and is an annual presenter at the Arizona School Counselor Association Conference. She has presented workshops on sports psychology and performance, understanding mental health concerns in our youth, communicating with your teen, adolescent brain development and how to cope with trauma. Angela is available for consultation services to groups that work in university settings, athletic departments and public schools. She can also be booked for workshops and presentations at request.
Angela is an active member of the American Counseling Association, Arizona Counseling Association, American Psychological Association and Division 47 (Sports, Exercise and Performance Psychology) and the Association for Applied Sports Psychology. She is also a member of Arizona Brain Injury Alliance.
